What a DOT Physical Is

The Department of Transportation (DOT) requires anyone who drives a commercial truck or bus to take a physical to receive and maintain their license. They must be done only by qualified medical examiners to be valid.

During DOT exams, a vision screening will be done as well as a hearing test. Blood pressure and heart rate are noted, and there may be a drug test performed. Doctors do this testing to ensure that the driver is safe to operate the vehicle. If any of these tests show a problem, you may not receive a license renewal, but we may be able to devise a plan to help you become qualified.

What You Should Take to a DOT Physical Exam

When you come for your exam, you should bring a list or the bottles for all your medications. If bringing a list, have the name and the dosage, name of the doctor prescribing, and the doctor’s address.

Other medical assistive devices you should bring in would be eyeglasses or contacts and hearing aides. If you have a medical condition such as heart disease, a letter from your diagnosing doctor may be required.

We may require you to have a list of over-the-counter medications, herbal remedies, and vitamins that you are taking just to make sure we have a good grasp of your medical state.

If you need a DOT exam or still have questions about them, we’re happy to answer them. Give Moore Family Chiropractic Center in Galesburg, IL a call at 309-342-2444 to schedule an appointment.
